Automaton Skeleton 1722 Moss Pastel Wall Clock
This big wall clock Automaton Skeleton 1722 Moss Pastel is made of several layers of wood, woodstained and painted high quality acrylic paint and a piece of acrylic mirror. The front elements of the clock are decorated with detailed and intricate engraving. Stainless steel elements and copper coated screws are used in the construction of this clock model.
While making the design of a new clock we were inspired not only by old mechanical wrist watches which gear motors seem to us real works of art but mechanical toys which were quite popular among the rich in XVIII in France. These toys were called automatons and were self-operating machines, or machines designed to follow automatically a predetermined sequence of operations, or respond to predetermined instructions. Some automata, such as bellstrikers in mechanical clocks, are designed to give the illusion to the casual observer that they are operating under their own power.
The hands motion is complemented by the movement of 4 gears each of which is an AA battery operated. The mirror adds some volume to the clock and amplifies the movement effect, transforming the clock into a kinetic installation.
Upon request the clock can be personalized with a text engraving, which will neatly supplement the look of the clock face.
