This big wall clock Automaton Tourbillon Blue is made of several layers of wood, woodstained and painted high quality acrylic paint and a piece of acrylic mirror. The front elements of the clock are decorated with detailed and intricate engraving. Stainless steel elements and copper coated screws are used in the construction of this clock model.

While making the design of a new clock we were inspired by a tourbillon, which is an addition to the mechanics of a watch escapement. Developed around 1795 and patented by the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet on June 26, 1801, a tourbillon aims to counter the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, to negate the effect of gravity when the timepiece is stuck in a certain position. By continuously rotating the entire balance wheel/escapement assembly at a slow rate (typically about one revolution per minute), the tourbillon averages out positional errors.

The hands motion is complemented by the movement of 4 gears each of which is an AA battery operated. The mirror on the background adds some volume to the clock and amplifies the movement effect, transforming the clock into a kinetic installation.

Upon request the clock can be personalized with a text engraving, which will neatly supplement the look of the clock face.
